Bicarbonate offers a cost-effective and simple solution for industrial flue gas cleaning

Tightening environmental regulations in industry require efficient and reliable solutions for flue gas cleaning. Berner Industry provides modern cleaning solutions that help companies reduce emissions, meet legislative requirements, and enhance operational efficiency at the same time.

One of the most effective options is bicarbonate (sodium bicarbonate, NaHCO₃), which neutralizes acidic compounds found in flue gases, such as sulphur dioxide (SO₂), hydrochloric acid (HCl), and hydrogen fluoride (HF). Bicarbonate is non-toxic and easy to handle, and it can be integrated into existing systems without major investments.

Efficient performance and easy application with bicarbonate

Bicarbonate works efficiently at low dosages compared to traditional absorbents such as lime. As a dry reagent, it reduces the amount of waste, thus saving on both waste management and operating costs. Through thermal activation at approximately 150–200 °C, bicarbonate transforms into highly reactive sodium carbonate, providing strong neutralization capacity.

The application is simple to implement, bicarbonate can be directly injected into the flue gas duct or used in dry injection systems, and it works excellently in combination with fabric filters. International references, such as TRM’s waste-to-energy plant in Italy, demonstrate its practical effectiveness.

Bicarbonate is particularly well-suited for industrial facilities, energy companies, and waste incineration plants, but also for municipalities and environmental authorities seeking responsible and easy-to-implement solutions for flue gas management,” says Michael Svanberg, Key Account Manager at Berner Industry.
